Organization and Structure
The New Mexico Retired Superintendents Association (NMRSA) is an organization dedicated to supporting retired superintendents and educators in New Mexico. Its primary goals include advocating for the interests of retired school leaders, promoting professional development, and fostering camaraderie among its members. The association focuses on addressing issues related to retirement benefits, education policy, and community engagement. By facilitating networking opportunities and providing resources, the NMRSA aims to ensure that retired superintendents remain informed and connected to the ongoing developments in education and to each other.

New Mexico Retired Superintendents’ Association
Section 1- Name
The name of the Association shall be the New Mexico Retired Superintendents’ Association
Section 2- Purpose
The purpose of the Association shall be to:
1. Provide an opportunity for superintendents who are retired to engage in social exchange and interaction.
2. Provide an opportunity for superintendents who are retired to support and improve the profession of educational leadership through service to the profession and advocacy for public education.
3. Provide an opportunity for superintendents who are retired to engage in advocacy for retired educators in New Mexico.
Section 3 Membership
Membership in the Association shall be open to individuals who have served as superintendents, acting superintendents, or interim superintendents in public schools in the State of New Mexico, or who have served as the Chief State School Officer in the state. Members must be drawing retirement from the Educational Retirement Board (ERB)and must belong to the New Mexico Association of Educational Retirees (NMAER).
Section 4 Officers
The officers of the association shall be a President, President-Elect, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer. The President-Elect and Vice-President shall be elected at the Annual Meeting, take office upon election and serve for a period of two years or until their successors are elected. The Secretary
shall be elected on even years at the Annual Meeting and shall serve a two year term or until his/her successor is elected. The Treasurer shall be elected on odd years at the Annual Meeting and shall serve a two year term or until his/her successor is elected. The Executive Committee shall fill vacancies for
unexpired portions of officers’ terms.
1. The President shall be the Chief Executive Officer of the Association, shall preside at all meetings, and shall serve as a member of the Executive Committee for one year following his/her term as President.
2. The President-Elect shall automatically become President for a two year term following his/her two year term as President-Elect.
Section 5 Executive Committee
The Executive Committee shall be composed of the President, President-Elect, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, Immediate Past President, and District Chair-Persons.
1. The President shall be chairperson of the Executive Committee,
2. The duties of the Executive Committee shall be to arrange the times and places of the Annual Meeting, to arrange programs, to initiate policies necessary for the Association, and to carry out those policies.
3. The Executive Committee shall approve a calendar of meeting dates for the Association.
4. The Executive Committee shall adopt an annual budget for the Association with the fiscal year for the Association commencing September 1 st and ending August 31 st annually.
5. The Executive Committee may recommend a change in the dues structure of the Association at the time of the Annual meeting, which if approved by the general membership shall become effective the following September 1 st .
6. The Executive Committee may approve representatives from other organizations to attend meetings of the Executive Committee.
7. The Executive Committee shall approve positions taken by the Association related to advocacy, publications, or testimony before public bodies.
8. The Executive Committee shall appoint committees as necessary.
Section 6 Districts The Association shall be divided into five districts with the boundaries of each established by the Executive Committee. Each District shall elect its District Chair-person who shall serve a two year term.
Section 7 Annual Meeting
The Association shall hold its Annual Meeting in July and the meeting shall coincide with the Annual Summer Conference of the New Mexico Coalition of Educational Leaders (NMCEL).
Section 8 Annual Dues
The annual dues for members shall be $25. A member shall be in good standing for one calendar year from the receipt of payment of the member’s dues. Lifetime Membership in the NMRSA is available and exempts the lifetime member from any subsequent dues payments.
